Communicating long-term value creation

Hibernia is a real estate investment trust on a mission – to transform the office portfolio of the company’s home city, Dublin. Part of that includes enhancing the sustainability of the company’s investments – its buildings. Sustainability remains a key priority for Hibernia. In fact, it’s an integral part of its strategy. Hibernia recognises that investors are paying more attention to this topic and good or bad performance could have commercial consequences.

Luminous was delighted to be appointed to produce the company’s first standalone sustainability report, with a brief to help highlight the value of sustainability to Hibernia in delivering long-term value for all of its stakeholders.

Our sustainability team worked in close partnership with Hibernia’s key internal stakeholders to help determine the key messages, stories and content for the inaugural sustainability report and give prominence to the company’s sustainability initiatives, targets and progress. Our role was to bring to life the stories and people behind the buildings.

A content workshop with Hibernia’s key team was particularly effective in initially informing the report’s key content and messaging. Luminous’ sustainability team provided ongoing strategic advice throughout the process to help review and curate content, give feedback and offer overall subject matter expertise on sustainability within the built environment.

A combination of location photography, bold stats and a distinctive icon style to present key information throughout the report succeeds in communicating Hibernia’s distinctive approach to preserving and promoting a building’s heritage features and lends a real sense of place. Luminous worked with Hibernia to bring those aspects of its approach to life whilst being mindful to help showcase all five of its key sustainability principles – for example, responsible asset management and how it positively impacts communities.

The result is an impressive first report that sets a solid foundation on which to build future reports. It communicates a narrative of responsible leadership in the real estate investment sector, married with an informative and engaging visual style that sits nicely as a suite alongside the company’s annual report whilst retaining its own individual look and feel.
